We are not living in a democracy - capitalism is rife

When i heard about some of the treatment of the protestors at the G20 protests i was a bit shocked at how the police treated the protestors. When i heard that an innocent man had been knocked down and then later died i was feeling what only experlatives could describe.

This man, Ian Tomlinson, was innocently walking home from work, with his back turned to the police officers. With no apparent warning or reason, the baton-wielding police officer felt it necessary to hit Ian Tomlinson on the leg and then push him to the ground. Subsequently, he suffered a heart attack and died.

What angers me is that the police, someone who we trust upon to serve and protect us, can act to such a barbaric way to attack someone unprovoked. The article (video-footage included) published by the Guardian shows exactly how Ian Tomlinson was attacked. I am pleased to hear that a full investigation is being carried out on this incident. If the law is followed the police officer should be tried for manslaughter and I would think that it is only fair that the police is not above the law and should be treated as equals amongst the rest of society. Just from these facts you could perhaps argue that this is an isolated occurance, but i would argue the opposite is true. For example, there was a Tamil protest calling to help bring an end to the war in Sri Lanka. Reports show that it was marred by violence mediated by, as eye-witness accounts have shown, the police. The irony is that our taxes pay for their wages, and yet, they punish those that actually provide for their livelihood.

Some people may think, so what? What relevance does this have to me? To my life? Well, i'll leave with this note, next time you walk past a police officer can you take the chance of not looking over your shoulder?

They can try to stop our freedom, but they won't stop our voice

I saw the video on Youtube ... really shocking. I hope the IPCC does something about it this time ... not like in the de Menezes case.

I think the difference between this case and the de Menezes one (i know some people will disagree with me) is that with de Menezes the special forces genuinely thought that they were shooting a terror suspect. With the case of Ian Tomlinson the video footage shows that he was neither protesting nor was he a threat to the police. It totally cannot be justified. Of course, the Met Police WILL deny any liability and will say that there isn't any link between Ian Tomlinson being pushed over and him having a heart attack 50 yards down the road. I wouldn't be surprised if that police officer and the Met Police force get away with it. The police have too much protection

Let us hope that the investigations carried out are fruitful and the police officer who committed this is indeed charged for manslaughter. But as you said, the police benefits from too much protection.
These kind of happenings really scare me. How can they do that? What rights do they have to take away the life of someone.

The meaning of democracy has always been fallacious. At the end of the day we saw that democracy is just a mere tool in the hands of the capitalist. Now talking about the capitalist it is a bit to vast we have to differentiate which group of capitalist - the elite or the pressure groups as well forming part of the capitalist itself.

NO wonder why Marx was voicing out for the working class and wanted a proletariat revolution and leading to a class less and stateless society.

Well there was revolution of the proletariat we saw the paris commune in the critque of gotha but it did not last long.

These sort of things with the police happens all over the world, i think that if it happens in developed state like the UK is there any hope for democracy at all? Its a sign that the system does not work. @Priscus, Marxist views are often seen as blunt and perhaps negative, but with events like this happening his theory stands strong

Marxist views was just an Utopian dream .. his proletariat revolution turn out to be wrong. I think this is the point where capitalist took a stand with the welfare stuffs for working classes.

Still it kant be said that wht marx said is an totally true but a number of stuffs he talked about - superstructure is true and stand today.

The capitalist rule.
